LHD Truwsteer Brand new 4 Bolt Steering box. 24 Month Warranty as standard
Unlike any others on the market these are a much better design reciprocating ball type steering box. The advantages of this over just the original type worm gear box is that the internal theads inside are filled with ball bearings that recirculate through the gear as it turns. The balls actually serve two purposes: First, they reduce friction and wear in the gear; second, they reduce slop in the gear. Slop would be felt when you change the direction of the steering wheel -- without the balls in the steering gear, the teeth would come out of contact with each other for a moment, making the steering wheel feel loose. As these use the latest techonology in both design and manufacture, these also do feel tighter on the road with less freeplay which improves the overall drive of your Land Rover.
Fits: All LHD Defender models 1983-2016 All LHD Discovery 1 models 1989-1999 All LHD Range Rover Classic models 1971-1996
This is not to be mistaken for a reconditioned unit, this is a complete brand new unit that is available as an outright purchase with no messing about with surcharges and sending your old steering box back etc.
Also being brand new, there is no need to worry about the quality of a "Reconditioned" steering box. Over the years we have fitted many reconditioned steering boxes (as new ones have always been so expensive) and it has been pretty much pot luck whether you get one that works without leaking. So no need to worry if the re con company has properly re chromed the inner shaft or replaced all the wearing parts.
This is a direct replacement for all Adwest 4 bolts steering boxes as well as the earlier 3 Bolt and 6 Bolt steering boxes.
These do not come with drop arms so you will need to swap over your old one or fit a new one. On Discovery 1 models they use a solid drop arm with no wearing joint so is nearly always ok to swap over. If you do require a new one, we have them as part number NTC9235
On Defender models they use a drop arm with a ball joint which are often worn so we would recomend while you are at it, replacing with new. The part number for the RHD Defender drop arm is QFW000030.
The tightness of the drop arm nut needs to be done to 176Nm and must be re checked after use.
As with any component such as steering or brakes etc, the steering box must be fitted in accordance with what Land Rover instructs and it is recomended to be fitted by a professional.
