The MUD Centre Console solves the problem of where to mount those extra switches and gauges in the Defender dashboard without having to resort to a homemade DIY dashboard. The MUD Defender Console is supplied as a blank moulding to provide the user with the flexibility to create their own unique dash layout that best satisfies their requirements. Each MUD Console comes complete with a steel mounting frame including end-plates, all fixings required and an easy-to-follow fully illustrated step-by-step fitting guide.
The recesses within the MUD Console will accept the standard sized 52mm auxiliary gauges and our popular Carling Technologies 'Contura II' switches and warning lamps.
Both the upper and lower central recessed mouldings are wide enough to accept up to three 52mm gauges or up to seven of the Carling switches. For a seven switch installation using the Carling interlocking mounts, use two interlocking ends and five interlocking centres.
Designed and manufactured in the UK, the MUD Defender Replacement Console is moulded from tough ABS plastic and even sports a textured finish that replicates the OE finish on the Defender dashboard.
The MUD Console will fit both Right Hand Drive and Left Hand Drive Defenders. The two circular mouldings within the console provide a neat method of relocating the standard rear-wash wipe switch (if fitted) and the 12v cigar lighter/power socket. Our heavy-duty Marine grade 12v and USB sockets will also fit into the recess. The unique design of the MUD Centre Console allows you to mount your DIN sized CD/Tuner head unit into one of two positions within the console and still leave plenty of room for all those ancillaries while at the same time presenting a factory look and a quality finish.
Either mount the stereo in the upper position.Or in the lower position. The sides of the MUD Console are wide enough to accept a 52mm gauge or up to two of the Carling Technologies switches. For that finishing touch, the MUD Console is fitted with an additional recessed oval moulding designed to accept many of the Land Rover logo badges used on or around Land Rovers over the years. (Please note this does not come with Land Rover logo)The MUD Console also provides the ideal spot for mounting a CB radio. The compact Midland 98 unit illustrated below has been mounted into the console using a dedicated Midland DIN mount.
Using a DIN mount you have the choice of whether to install the CB in the upper or the lower location.
Alternatively, the unit is strong enough to hang a standard U-shaped CB mounting bracket off the lower edge of the console.
Commercial operators will also note that the MUD Defender Replacement Console provides the perfect way of mounting the latest generation of DIN sized tachograph in the Defender cabin.

Single DIN

Double DIN
This state of the art double DIN headunit incorporates all the latest technology including Apple Carplay, Android Auto and a DAB radio. As you can see below the JVC KW-M745DBT fits perfectly into the MUD Console thanks to its mechless design meaning there is plenty of room for an easy install. Click on the image below for more information. In regard to Double DIN headunits supplied by other manufacturers traditionally we have always advised against attempting to fit the double DIN unit into the console because there is not enough room for most double DIN units to fit behind the console without cutting more of your existing dashboard away. However we have been made aware of a few customers who have been able to fit an Alpine double DIN unit without any more cutting. A good example of this is below, the unit featured is an Alpine INE-S900R.
